Microcredit and social credit in Belgium In Belgium, two types of social credit are available to those excluded from traditional bank credit. The microcredit is intended for people who want to start or to develop a business; social credit is intended for individuals who need an item vital to their social reintegration. These credits go hand in hand with assistance services. Dexia Foundation Belgium gives added impetus to these credits by supporting two major Belgian operators involved in solidarity finance: Crédal and Hefboom

At the end of 2001, Dexia Asset Management launched its first “Helping those who help”- operation. The idea was to dedicate the budget previously allocated to New Year’s gifts to the support of charitable associations. Today the operation has become a part of life at Dexia Asset Management and is repeated every year. Its objectives have not changed: to replace the sending of gifts to friends by providing aid to the less well-off, supporting associations close to the hearts of members of the Dexia AM staff , preferring associations where voluntary effort is the principal driving force, well away from normal support channels.
