Protecting the environment
The Bank implements various actions to make the public aware of the issues of climate change. Wishing to mobilise its clients in the war against climate change, the ninth “Landmark Conference” was organised in March and attended by 1,700 clients, with the participation of Mr Al Gore, former Vice-President of the United States and active militant in the fight against global warming. At the same time, an internal awareness campaign was run on the subject, with the maxim "When mankind protects the earth, the earth protects mankind."

Creativity Competition 2007
For the second consecutive year, Dexia organised its Creativity Competition in Luxembourg. This year, at the Bank’s “Galerie l'Indépendance”, some sixty students were given awards for their drawings illustrating the topic of climate change and the future of our planet ("E Geste fir eng besser Ëmwelt"). The competition was intended for all Luxembourg students.

Dexia recognises sustainable development initiatives
On the initiative of Dexia Crédit Local, in partnership with the Comité 21, the Association of Mayors of France and the Association of Mayors of the Major Cities of France, Sustainable Development Ribbons have been awarded since 2003 to exemplary initiatives by local authorities in favour of sustainable development. The issue is gradually to draw up a map of France showing local best practices. The initiative was taken in Luxembourg, where Dexia Banque Internationale à Luxembourg launched the first edition of the programme in the autumn of 2007 to recognise both a local authority and a business which has implemented an outstanding sustainable development project.

Dexia Editions, committed to local sustainable development
Since 1995, Dexia Editions has offered local authorities technical works to assist decision making and local management. The collection deals with major social subjects such as decentralisation, town and country planning and sustainable development and relies on comparative studies undertaken on a European scale. An important selection of works relates in particular to protection of the environment and the quality of life, as well as the enhancement of local heritage.

Regional nature parks supported by the Fondation Dexia France
Regional nature parks were created to protect and to enhance sensitive rural areas. Each park is organised around a sustainable development project implemented by local authorities. The 44 parks ensure the protection and enhancement of natural and cultural heritage, guarantee environmentally-friendly economic and social development and promote the participation and information of local inhabitants. In partnership with Dexia Editions, the Fondation Dexia France has in particular participated in the publication of the Sustainable Development Almanac.
